As educators in independent schools, regardless of our specific contexts, we share a fundamental belief: every child possesses the potential for growth. We believe in the transformative power of education, the ability of our institutions to nurture potential, and the understanding that, with the right support and encouragement, young people can achieve remarkable outcomes. This belief is the very heart of why we teach.

Recently, I read an article in the Leicester Mercury concerning the Loughborough Foundation, where parents were informed their children were ‘not the right fit’. This news prompted reflection on our approach at the Dixie Grammar School. You can find the article here: https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/local-news/devastated-parents-told-children-not-9992963

At the Dixie, we are committed to being an inclusive community. While we maintain high academic standards – as evidenced by our recent A-level results, surpassing those of Loughborough Grammar, and our students’ success in securing places at prestigious universities for veterinary science, medicine and law – we believe in a broader definition of achievement. As my welcome on our website states, “we prioritise the individual over external data.”

We understand that there are instances where we may not be the best fit for every child. This is not about predetermined outcomes; it’s about ensuring we can provide the specific support and resources a child needs to thrive. We are committed to assessing each child’s needs carefully and transparently, and we provide targeted learning support for children with additional needs through our specialist team. We also offer means tested bursaries and scholarships to ensure that a Dixie education is accessible to pupils from different socioeconomic backgrounds.

Our commitment to inclusivity extends beyond academic support. We foster a community built on our core values: Respect, Resilience, Courage, Commitment, and Care. These values are woven into every aspect of our school life, creating an environment where high expectations are matched with outstanding support, enabling all pupils to flourish.

We also recognise the importance of being part of our wider community. We work closely with local primary schools, and support local businesses and charities. We also welcome applications from children from all backgrounds.

We invite you to learn more about our inclusive approach and the values that guide our education. Please visit our website www.dixie.org.uk or contact us to arrange a visit. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and we are dedicated to providing the environment and support to make that a reality.
